Profile
Wei Hsin Chen is a distinguished professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. He earned his doctorate at the same university in 1993 and has held academic posts at several Taiwanese institutions, including Fooyin University, National Taiwan Ocean University and the National University of Tainan.
His research covers hydrogen energy, bioenergy, clean energy, carbon capture and atmospheric science. He has published around 450 journal and conference papers, serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and has received research and engineering awards in Taiwan.
At the conference
His invited talk focused on operation and system optimisation for hydrogen production and separation. It examined thermochemical routes such as gasification, catalytic partial oxidation and autothermal reforming, and the use of palladium membranes for separation.
The talk introduced optimisation methods including the Taguchi method, response surface methodology and the Nelder Mead method. It showed how operating conditions such as temperature, steam to carbon ratio, oxygen to carbon ratio and gas hourly space velocity affect hydrogen yield and recovery, and compared the performance of the methods.
See the invited speakers page for the other talks, and the topics page for the production and separation subject areas.
