RWE joins a 21 GW offshore wind hydrogen project

Offshore wind at gigawatt scale is becoming a hydrogen production proposition.

WHEC 2022

RWE took part in a project to produce green hydrogen from 21 GW of offshore wind in the Netherlands. The scale is significant: it moves the conversation from a single electrolyser to an industrial cluster that combines generation, conversion and transport.

The European Investment Bank published an investor view report on the project, according to the conference news record. Such reports matter because they translate engineering plans into the language of risk, return and bankability that large projects need.

For conference delegates, the item illustrated a wider point: the hydrogen economy will be built through a small number of very large projects as well as many smaller ones. Both need standards, supply chains and a clear route to market.
