A European design for a 37,500 cubic metre liquefied hydrogen carrier was unveiled. The vessel is intended to move hydrogen in liquid form, which requires cryogenic containment, insulation and safety systems that can operate at very low temperatures.
The design was part of the wider effort to connect low cost production regions with demand centres. Liquefaction is energy intensive, so the case for liquid hydrogen depends on distance, volume and the alternative options.
